Description
The New Taiwan Dollar is the official currency of Taiwan, issued by the Central Bank of the Republic of China. It is denoted by the symbol NT$ and is subdivided into 100 cents (fen), though fractional coins are rarely used in everyday transactions.
Introduced in 1949 to replace the old Taiwan dollar after hyperinflation, the NT$ has become a stable and widely traded Asian currency. Banknotes are available in denominations of 100, 200, 500, 1000, and 2000, while coins range from 1 cent to 50 cents. The currency is commonly referred to as “NT$” to distinguish it from the Chinese yuan.
