Description

The Trinidad and Tobago Dollar is the official legal tender of the twin-island nation of Trinidad and Tobago. It is issued by the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago and is divided into 100 cents. Banknotes are available in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 dollars, while coins circulate in 1, 5, 10, and 25 cent values as well as 1 dollar coins.

Since 1976 the currency has been pegged to the United States dollar at a fixed rate of approximately 1 USD = 6.8 TTD, providing stability for trade and tourism. To avoid confusion with other dollar‑denominated currencies, the symbol “TT$” is commonly used in pricing and financial reporting. English is the official language, and the population is referred to as Trinidadian and Tobagonian.
