SRD / NAD

The Surinamese dollar is the official currency of Suriname, a South American nation on the Atlantic coast. It was introduced in 2004, replacing the Surinamese guilder at a rate of 1 dollar = 1,000 guilders, to simplify transactions and curb inflation.

The currency is issued by the Central Bank of Suriname and is nominally divided into 100 cents, although cent coins are rarely used in everyday commerce. The symbol “$” is commonly employed, often prefixed with “SRD” to avoid confusion with other dollar currencies. Banknotes feature national wildlife, historic figures and cultural motifs, reflecting Suriname’s diverse heritage.
