The Peruvian sol is the official currency of Peru, introduced in 1991 to replace the inti after a period of hyperinflation. Managed by the Central Reserve Bank of Peru, it is subdivided into 100 céntimos and is symbolized by “S/”. The sol’s banknotes feature prominent national figures such as former presidents and cultural icons, while coins often display indigenous wildlife like llamas and the Andean condor.

Peru’s economy relies heavily on mining, agriculture, and tourism, and the sol is widely used in both urban and rural markets. The currency is legal tender throughout the country, and its stability has been credited with supporting Peru’s sustained economic growth over the past three decades. Spanish is the dominant language, with Quechua and Aymara also recognized officially.
