Description
The Fiji dollar is the official currency of the Republic of Fiji, issued by the Reserve Bank of Fiji. It was introduced in 1969, replacing the Fijian pound at a rate of two dollars to one pound, and is subdivided into 100 cents.
Coins are minted in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20 and 50 cents as well as $1 and $2, while banknotes are available in $5, $10, $20, $50 and $100. The dollar is commonly denoted by the symbol $, or more specifically FJ$, to avoid confusion with other dollar currencies. Fiji’s economy relies heavily on tourism, sugar, and remittances, making the dollar a key instrument in regional trade.
