The Bangladeshi Taka is the official monetary unit of Bangladesh, issued by the Bangladesh Bank, the country's central bank. It is subdivided into 100 poisha, although poisha coins are no longer in circulation. The symbol, ৳, was officially adopted in 2009 and is derived from the Bengali letter “ট” (ṭa) combined with a double horizontal line, similar to other currency symbols.

Banknotes feature prominent national figures such as the founding father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and cultural icons, while coins display the national emblem and the country's map. The Taka plays a crucial role in Bangladesh's rapidly growing economy, which is driven by textiles, agriculture, and remittances from overseas workers.
